As it is obvious from the title of this post we spent New Year in Scotland again this year. We stayed in the small village of Birnham, which is on the opposite side of the River Tay to Dunkeld. I think we made the right decision to stay in a village this time, we would have never have made it to the cottage we stayed in back in November due to all of the snow and ice. We struggled to get the car close to the cottage in Birnham, the last couple of hundred metres was just impossible due to the compacted snow and ice on the lane down to the cottage. The weather wasn't fantastic during our stay, with grey overcast skies all week and the lighting was really awful, not good for photos! We did manage to get out and about a little but 'microspikes' were essential everywhere we went as the paths were covered in ice. We made the mistake of leaving them at the cottage when we walked over to The Hermitage, which made the walk very interesting to say the least. Luckily for us we managed not to fall over on the ice, but we saw several other people taking tumbles while we were out. I didn't end up taking that many photos, just over 40 for the whole week which is a miracle for me, I've put a few of the better ones below which should give you a good idea what the conditions were like?
