First Entry for 2011!

Happy New Year to everyone, we've been away up in cold and snowy Scotland for the New Year. The weather wasn't brilliant, in terms of taking photos, so the camera stayed in it's carry case most of the time! We travelled back home on Thursday and things were pretty eventful to say the least. We started off with freezing conditions and black ice from Dunkeld to Glasgow, then heavy snow showers all the way to Penrith, really glad I stuck to the motorway rather than trying the A68, otherwise we may have got stuck! When we eventually arrived home we discovered that the water supply had been turned off! There had been some water leaks while we had been away, and the supplies had been isolated until they were sure there were no more leaks. Several phone calls later and a couple of hours of waiting and the supply was back on and at last I could have a cup of tea!

Well there was one good bit of news, whilst waiting for the supply to be turned back on, I received a phone call from Peter Linney, from the Wainwright Society, to say that one of the photos I'd submitted had been chosen by Derry Brabbs as the winning entry for the 2010 Photo Competition. Well that really cheered me up, especially when it was the photo that I almost hadn't entered was the one that won! Anyhow, this is the photo that Derry picked as the winning entry, it was taken on the day of the winter solstice, when I was over at Keswick, not a planned day out taking photos, but I decided to wander down to Friars Crag with the camera while I was there, just goes to show you take very opportunity as you never know when the 'stunning shot' will come along!
