Trotternish Peninsula

Date ... Tuesday, 12 May 2009

After our brilliant walk on The Quiraing the previous day we needed to pay a visit to Portree, the capital of Skye and its largest town, for some supplies. We decided to make a bit of an exploration trip out of it drive around the Trotternish Peninsula, the road was only a single lane one with passing places, but it was highly recommended in the guide book. On the way to Portree we paid a visit to the hydro-electric power station at Storr Lochs, where we got some different views of The Storr. Atfer a look around Portree and stocking up on food for the next couple of days we headed off along the west side of the peninsula. The drive was lovely, with great views out across the bays and the other side of the Tortternish Ridge. At Uig we stopped to pay a visit to the Isle of Skye Brewery, the makers of Red Cullin, well I couldn't go all that way without trying some??? After Uig we continued the drive around the coast having our lunch along the way at Duntulm Castle. On the way back to the cottage we thought Tim deserved a run out, after been stuck in the car most of the day again so we paid a visit to the sandy beach at Staffin we he loved!

On the way to Portree to get some shopping we saw this heron standing in a field near a small stream. It was kind enough to stand still long enough for me to take this photo
