I was woken up at around 4.15 am on the Monday morning by a lovely orange glow streaming through the bedroom window. I just couldn't resist getting up and going down to the beach to try and capture the lovely colours with my camera. It was bitterly cold and I'd wished I'd remembered to take a pair of gloves. By the time I'd watched the sun rise and walked back up to the cottage (at 5.30 am) I couldn't feel my fingers. The slight discomfort was well worth it though, this was one of those mornings that will stay in with me for a very long time. The subtle colours of the sky and sea in period before the sun actually broke the horizon were beautiful.
The first shot I took was from a little bit above the beach by the ruins of an old cottage
I eventually found myself a spot down on the edge of the beach, sheltered from the cold breeze, but with a great view across the sea
I tried the 'sunset' preset on the camera for this one, but preferred the subtler tones of the previous shot
I think the mountain in the far distance was Sulliven (?)
Waiting in anticipation for the sun to burst over the horizon
Almost there!
At last the sun!!!!!!
Zooming out for a wide angled shot
Even though the sea was very flat, every now and then the odd wave would break over the rocks in front of me
Looking north along the coast, the milky water was produced by the 3 second shutter speed!
The sun was well above the horizon now, my fingers were almost to cold to press the shutter release by now
This was the last shot I took down on the beach as I'd decided to head back to the cottage for a coffee and warm up
One last look at the rising sun over The Sound of Raasay from the top of the cliffs ...
