This was going to be a long hot days walking, even though we were dropping a 1000 metres in height overall, we would do somewhere around 6000 feet of ascent/descent during the day. The main reason for this was the crossing of the river at Phunki Tenga, as it involved a long descent from the monastery at Tengboche and a real killer of an ascent back up the other side. This was the only day where we had an afternoon coffee stop and it was a welcome one. It was a really warm day, with the temperature well into the twenties, the sun was very strong again so it was out with the factor 30 sun tan lotion before we left the village.
The Lobuche Khola valley from Pheriche
Ama Dablam in the early morning light
The cloud covered peaks of Thamserka and Kangtega
Another view along the valley
The group heading out of Pheriche village
One last look along the valley, with Lobuche Peak dominating the view
As we went to cross the river we met a yak train coming the other way
The cloud was quickly building up over the mountains, hope this didn't mean rain later in the day?
Our guides, they were brilliant, I don't think we could have made it without their help!
Heading down past Orsho towards Shormare and Pangboche
The rocky peaks of Pokalde poking out through the clouds
Entering Pangboche village
Water driven prayer wheels at Pangboche
Back at the monastery in Tengboche, where we had our lunch stop, more tomato soup and chips!
Looking across the valley towards Kyangjuma, doesn't look to far, apart from the 2500 feet descent and the climb back up!
The bridge across the river at Phunki Tenga
Looking back towards Tengboche, our descent path to the bridge can be seen zig zagging through the trees in the distance
Almost at Kyangjuma and a well earned hot chocolate
By the time we reached Namche Bazaar the cloud had descend again
