Sunday lunch

With Sheena and Tim missing out on their walk with me on Saturday I decided to take them both out yesterday, we drove over to Reeth in Swaledale and went to The Black Bull for our dinner, they do a carvery on a Sunday and it was delicious a huge plate full of lamb, pork and beef with the full compliment of veg, yorkshire puddings and lashing of thick gravy! After we had finished our lunch we took Tim for a stroll along the river, it was a grey and dull day with a really cold easterly wind blowing up the valley and the occassional snow flurry thrown in. From the village we headed down to the river, crossed the ’swing’ bridge and walk up stream for a mile or so until we reached the quite country road which we then followed back down the valley to Grinton. The road climbed up the side of Harkerside Moor and we felt the full force of the cold wind as we walked along, we were gald when we started to drop back down into Grinton, my ears were burning with the cold. From Grinton it was an easy stroll back across the fields to Reeth, Tim couldn’t quite help himself though and as we walked along beside Arkle Beck he decided it was time for a swim, I don’t think he can feel the cold, the water was absolutely freezing but he was splashing around enjoying himself. When we got back to the car he jumped into the back and snuggled down in his towels and blankets and snored all the way home!

That’s a lovely walk, Gary. I have done a similar walk quite a few years ago when Alison & I usd to visit the Dales regularly.
