The weather forecast wasn't great for today, with low cloud and mist been predicted for just about the whole of the north, they did say any brightness could be expected to the west of Keswick. So we decided to head in that direction and see what it was like when we got there. The walk that we had in mind was to visit Latrigg and then head over to Castelrigg Stone Circle, it's a route that I'd seen Andrew Leaney do in December last year and thought it would make a good one for when the tops were shrouded in cloud, like today. With it been the start of the half term holidays it was very busy with lots of people out walking. Saying that though it wasn't too bad, it was just a shame that the weather was so murky as we know from previous visits to this area the views can be wonderful on a clear day!
Snowdrops in Hope Park
No view of Skiddaw today as we walked through the park
Passing George Fishers
along Lake Road
Latrigg from Station Road
Passing the swimming pool
Latrigg again, this time from Brundholme Road
Looking across to where Grisedale Pike should be, nothing but low cloud and mist
We could just about make out Bassenthwaite Lake in the distance
The view wasn't much better towards Keswick + Derwent Water
Heading up towards the summit of Latrigg
Keswick was just about visible through the low cloud from the summit
After taking in the views from the summit we headed off east along the ridge
Zooming in on Castlerigg Stone Circle our next target for today
A wider angle of the same view, just to show how bad the murk was!
We did get the odd brief bright spell but they were very short lived
Blease Fell on Blencathra
Heading down the lane towards Brundholme
The old railway bridge where we would cross the River Greta
Latrigg from the bridge, the small hut in the distance provided a great spot for lunch today
Sheena enjoying an ice cream at the stone circle, looks like Tim would like some of it as well!
Think this B+W shot of Castlerigg Stone Circle sums up what the day was like weatherwise!
Latrigg from the stone circle
Another shot of Castlerigg Stone Circle, there were plenty of people there today
From the stone circle we walked along Castle Lane
Latrigg from Castle Lane
