We had hoped to get over to the Lakes for our first walk over there of the New Year, but after my trip to the physio on Friday my head/neck were still aching and I didn't fancy the drive. So we headed off up the valley to Bowlees, hoping that the thaw that had set in would have put a bit of water in the river making the waterfalls really impressive. We got a bit of a shock when we arrived at the car park, as the thaw hadn't been as quick that far up the valley. There was still several inches of icy snow in the car park, I didn't fancy trying to get in, let alone get out, so we parked on the road in instead. We first made the short walk from the car park to the lovely waterfall in Bowlees Beck, the first set don't have a name, as far as I'm aware, and the second bigger one is called Summerhill Force. It was very obvious that our hopes of some impressive pictures wasn't going to happen. The thaw had definitely set in, as lots of the ice on the falls had melted, but the river levels were still really low. We decided to get some nice photo's from around Summerhill Force and Low Force, but gave the walk up the river to High Force a miss, it wasn't that nice walking in several inches of wet snow ....

There were a few icicles left along the river, but most have melted

Summerhill Force
It was hard to believe that two days before this was just about frozen solid!
We next headed down to the River Tees and the waterfalls at Low Force
They looked lovely with the snow on the rocks
A slow shutter speed shot, interesting with the canoeist in the foreground
There were several of them on the river today
They all had a go at going over the falls!
