This was another of the walks in the Walks in Limestone Country book, and it was a route that we'd never done before. The weather didn't look to promising as we set off from the village though, the mist was right down in the valley, but at least it was dry. The route itself was easy enough, just follow the track all the way to the top, the only really difficult bit was the final hundred feet or so where there was still plenty of snow lying on the ground. We had half of our packed lunch on the summit, hoping that the mist would lift, but sadly it didn't so we never got a really good view. Saying that though it doesn't really matter as we are going to have to do Ingleborough another three times yet before we complete all the walks in the book. So fingers crossed we might get one good view????
A misty of of the church as we headed out of the village
It didn't look very promising as started the climb towards Ingleborough
A very misty view along Fell Lane, which we followed up to Crina Bottom
Where the mist was even thicker! There is a house amongst the tree's, really there was!
Not long after we passed Crina Bottom the mist began to clear, we hoped that we might even get above the clouds?
A brief glimpse of the summit
The mist cleared as we made the final steep pull towards the summit
Sheena coming up the final steep snow slope, we were surprised by how much there was in places!
Err ... a rather muddy looking Tim dog
Tim heading across the flat summit towards the trig point
A brief break in the cloud gave us this view of Whernside
A lone walker heads off in the direction of Horton-in-Ribblesdale, the Pen-y-Ghent in the background
The clear conditions didn't last for long unfortunately
Sheena and (a slightly cleaner) Tim dog by the remains of the old hospice, which is about 50 metres from the trig point
As we headed back down we spotted these intrepid souls making a more direct attempt on the summit!
We hadn't left the summit that long when the cloud eventually lifted, typical isn't it?
Looking out towards Twisleton Scars
Zooming in on Whernside
and the distant snow capped fells of the Lake District, we usually see Ingleborough from there, so it was a nice change today
Looking back at Ingleborough from White Scars, we took a slight detour from the main path for this photo
and this one, but it was well worth it?
Sheena enjoying the warm afternoon sun as we headed back towards Ingleton
Ingleborough from Crina Bottom, conditions were much better the when we passed this way earlier in the day
Twisleton Scars and Whernside from Fell Lane
Almost back at Ingleton
The old railway viaduct that dominates the village, just a short walk back to the pub and a well earned drink!
