We didn't have great amount of spare time today, as we seemed to have loads of jobs to do. However, we still wanted to take Tim out for a walk somewhere, so we picked on Reeth in Swaledale. We hadn't been there for a walk for about a year, hard to believe buts it been that long. We repeated one of previous walks, which followed the south bank of the River Swale west along the valley until we joined the quiet country lane near to Stubbins Farm. We then walked back along the road, a bit boring, but some great views up and down the dale, to village of Grinton. It was then a simple walk back over the fields to Reeth, where we had a delicious lunch at The Black Bull.
We started the walk on the village green, to get down to the river we headed left past the National Park Centre
Looking back at Reeth village green, and yes the lamp post is on a lean, its not my camera angle!
Looking over the valley towards Harkerside Hill, which still has a fair bit of snow on it
Sheena and Tim heading over the fields towards the Swing Bridge, which will take us over the river
Tim leading the way over the bridge
Our path will follow the south bank of the river along to Stubbins Farm
Looking back at the bridge, with Fremington Edge behind
A rather bleak dales scene, it wont be too long before these meadows are full of wonderful wild flowers
Healaugh village with Calver Hill on the skyline
Looking back down the dale towards Reeth, the snow line in the distance marks Fremington Edge
Not the local Swaledale sheep we expect to see in the dale
Well we can't go out for a walk without one photo of Tim dog can we???
A very typical Swaledale scene, a patchwork of stone walls and field barns
Once we reached Stubbins Farm we followed the quite country lane back towards the village of Grinton
Another view of Claver Hill, this time from higher up the other side of the valley, it doesn't look so dominating as before!
Me and Tim dog posing for the camera, I must get a new woolly hat, that one is awful! LOL
One last look along the dale, on a clear day Great Shunner Fell can be seen, far to cloudy today for that
I'd never really noticed these 'terraces' in the fields before, not sure if they are natural or man made?
Reeth village with Fremington Edge dominating the view behind
Heading down into Grinton village
St Andrews Church in Grinton
and the Bridge Inn
We spotted this musical sheep perched on the roof of the pub!
Heading back over the fields towards Reeth
An old barn at Low Fremington
The last part of the walk is along Arkle Beck, until you reach the road which takes you back into Reeth
