This wasn't the first walk that I'd planned to do in 2010, but with the way I'd been feeling over the last couple of days, this was short walk was more than enough for me. I was at the hospital on Wednesday to see the physio for the first time about my neck. After the work out he gave me, combined with the exercises, my neck/back had complained a bit over the last couple of days. We decided to catch the bus up the valley to Gainford and then follow the Teesdale Way back to home. We've done the walk a few times before, it's not the best walk but it made a nice change. The walking is very easy, the hardest thing was the very slippery paths. We've had snow lying around the village now for the last 16 days and the old stuff has gone very icy in places. The highlight of the walk is the old roman fort at Piercebridge, there's only a small portion of the fort visible, but well worth a visit.

From the green we walked along past the terraced houses on Tees View to reach the A67, which we followed for about quarter of a mile before heading along the riverside path
This is where we left the main road, we would follow the river just about all the way back home from here
This horse was very interested in Tim, as you can tell the feeling wasn't mutual!
Our path took us under the old Darlington to Tebay railway line, which was closed way back in the 1960's
Even though we were followed the river, you don't see that much of it because of all of the tree's
Tim trying to work out where all the rabbits were in the woods, safely in their burrows, I think!

The pipe bridge across the river near to Piercebridge, from memory I think these are gas pipes?

The bridge over the River Tees, up to 1974 this marked the boundary between Durham and Yorkshire
The highlight of the walk was a visit to the old roman fort
This is the small area of the fort that has been excavated

Heading up the lane to Calrbury Mill and then it's just a short walk back along the main road to the village and home!
