Something a little different today, the weather forecast wasn't brilliant, with heavy showers been forecasted by late morning. So rather than go out for a walk I decided to drive up the valley to take some photo's of the beautiful teesdale waterfalls. It would also give me a chance to have a play around with the new 'Cokin' filters I'd recently bought, as it's not always as easy to do this when I'm out walking with Sheena and Tim. The day started off ok with some nice sunshine but it soon clouded over and the rain arrived just as I was setting up the tripod at High Force. I managed to get some good shots before the rain got to heavy, but my plans of going to Cauldron Snout were dashed to I headed back home ....
Unnamed waterfalls in Bowlees Beck, this is the first waterfall that you see as you walk up from the car park at Bowlees if you follow the trail along to Gibson's Cave
Another view of the falls, there is another slightly smaller fall just above these, which is not visible from here
A slightly closer view
Looking along Bowlees Beck with Summerhill Force in the distance, it was lovely with the sun light filtering through the trees
Summerhill Force
I next walked down to the River Tees to see the falls at Low Force, which were stunning as normal!
The middle of the three falls which make up Low Force
and the upper falls ....
The lower falls are just above the Wynch Bridge, an old suspension bridge
Low Force, don't think I will ever get tired of this view
I then drove the short distance up to the High Force Hotel to visit High Force
Care needs to be taken climbing over the boulders to get down to the waters edge, they are very slippery when wet
The first of the rain drops started to appear on the filter!
I still managed to get some really nice shots of High Force before the rain got to bad
I tried to find some shelter under the trees, but it didn't help keep the filter dry
So I packed up and headed home, calling in at The Teesdale Gallery to see my friend Andy Beck on the way
Andy was in the middle of planning his next trip out on the fells as part of his Wainwrights in Colour Project
Some of his finished work hanging upstairs in the gallery, this photo doesn't do it justice, please visit his web site to see how stunning his watercolour paintings really are (and before you ask no I'm not on commission!)
