The weather just seemed to be getting wetter and wetter as our weeks holiday went on. Our walking boots were soaked through by now and it wasn't that nice putting your feet into cold wet boots! The weather forecast was still for heavy showers and strong winds, so after a browse of the walking books over breakfast we headed off to Pont Bethania, where the Watkin Path starts from. We had no intention of trying to make the summit today, but it's one path we've never walked so we'd see how far we would get!
At the start of the walk we decided to make the shortish detour along the 'farm trail' around Hafon Llan, the farm bought by the National Trust a few years ago to save part of Snowdon when it was put up for sale by its previous owners
The weather on Snowdon didn't look that promising!
At first I thought these were just sheep in the field, a second look proved that they were actually rams, I'm glad there was a fence between us and them, they looked pretty mean
After a pleasant walk along the river, the farm trial took us along some old walled lanes
It was full waterproofs from the start today
By the time we'd rejoined the Watkin Path, behind the farm, the weather was looking even worse, we almost chickened out and headed back down to the car, but we stuck at it
Looking back down onto the meadows we'd walked through earlier
A view across to the Moelwyns and a cloud topped Cnitch
We did get quite a few sunny spells between the showers, and were treated to some stunning rainbows
Hey I'm cuter than that rainbow!
But the showers were coming thick and fast, and the strong winds made it feel pretty miserable
Waterfalls in Afon Cwm Llan
Tim didn't mind been wet be it from the river or the rain!
Heading along the old tramway, Snowdon is somewhere up there in the clouds
Tim was his usual 'mad dog' self!
The old 'barracks' at the slate quarry, this is where the workers used to live
We decided to use this to provide a little bit of shelter for out lunch stop
The weather wasn't showing any signs of improvement so we decided not to go any higher, and head back down

Some more of the old mine buildings in Cwm Llan
These 'pock' marks on the side of the building are said to be bullet holes left by the army during WW2?
A view back into Cwm Llan as we headed back down the Watkin Path
At last the weather was starting look like it may just dry up
We could see the distant peak of Moel Siabod, which had been hidden by the cloud all day
Spoke too soon! The torrential downpour that caught us just as we got back to the car
One last rainbow shot before I jumped into the car to get out of the rain
Tim getting a warm in front of the fire back at the cottage
After a nice log soak in a hot bath I made us a delicious supper of steak in peppercorn sauce with chips and salad
Followed by my favourite ... sherry trifle, yummy!
