This was the last day of our long weekend and it was another roasting hot and very humid day, 23 ºC at 9 am! So after packing away all of the camping gear we drove round from Eskdale into Buttermere to have stroll around the Lake, one on Tim's favourite walks. By the time we arrived at Buttermere and parked the car the temperature had risen to 27 ºC so it was sun hats/glasses and a liberal coating of sun cream before we left the car park. It was a lot busier than we'd expected, there were dozens of people walking down towards the Lake, however, me stopping to take loads of photos helped to ensure we didn't meet to many of them!
The route map of our walk
The Fish Hotel, in Buttermere village, at the start of the walk
Looking along Buttermere towards Fleetwith Pike
Looking back across the meadows towards the village, with Whiteless Pike behind
It didn't take tim too long to find the lake
Another view of Whiteless Pike, this time from the outflow of the lake, the Crag Hill - Causey Pike ridge is the one on the right
Buttermere lake with Grasmoor, Whiteless Pike, Crag Hill and Sail behind
A view of High Snockrigg across Buttemere
The woods were full of these delightful Foxgloves
It was really pleasant walking through the shade of the trees along the lake shores
As once we reached the eastern end of the lake it was roasting in the direct sun
Fleetwith Pike and Buttermere, with the slopes of Dale Head on the left
Looking through the trees to the 'bothy' on the shores of Buttermere
Approaching Peggy's Bridge
A view along Warnscale Beck towards the lake from the bridge
One of my favourite views, Haystacks across the meadows from Peggy's Bridge
High Stile and Dodd from the NE corner of the lake
Looking back towards Haystacks and the Buttermere Pines
High Stile and Dodd again from Crag Wood
Tim splashing through the shallows, Sheena taking the drier route!
Looking down Buttermere towards the distant bulk of Mealbreak
The tunnel entrance at Hassness
And the view of Hen Comb and Mealbreak from the other end
Looking back to Haystacks
Grasmoor and Whiteless Pike from the fields just outside the village
High Snockrigg from the same spot
Buttermere village, with Mealbreak and Hen Comb behind, at the end of another delightful, but very hot and humid, walk
