I was getting a little bored, with taking Tim for his daily walk, along the river at home. So on Sunday morning we headed along the valley to Bowlees to have a walk along the River Tees between Low Force. This is one of favourite walks, in fact this would be our ninth time doing the walk this year. We were surprised at how quiet it was, we only met a dozen or so people while we were out. You could tell from all the feet marks in the snow that loads had people had been there in previous days. Maybe the the predicted icy weather and snow showers had put them off?
The car park at Bowlees was a little bit icy! My reversing into the parking spot was very interesting, glad no one else was around!
Sheena and Tim heading out of the car park towards the river
On the way we passed the visitors centre, sadly closed today, a hot cuppa on the way back would have been nice
Swaledale's in Teesdale
There wasn't a lot of water coming over Low Force when we got there, not surprising with amount of snow on the ground
Low Force from the Wynch Bridge
The upper falls at Low Force
The paths along the river bank were very icy when we set off, a pair of crampons wouldn't have gone a miss
Even though it almost midday, the weak winter sun was struggling to make it above the horizon
In places the river had completely frozen over, the ice didn't look that thick though so I wouldn't let Tim go on it
Cold and snowy Teesdale pastures
The sun made a few appearances, when it did the light and shadows on the lying snow was lovely
The footbridge across the river near to the High Force Hotel. We did think about crossing over and going to High Force that way
We were glad we didn't as the paths on the other side of the river were closed due to the amount of ice, as you can see!

A view of Holwick Lodge, as we headed back down river to Bowlees
We also spotted this brave(?) chap at Low Force, rather him than me!
