| We
started this walk at Fell Gate rather than Coniston village to save
having to walk up the steep section of road, and it also saved us
having to pay for the car parking (£6 for all day in LDNP car park in Coniston). The first section of the path is
fairly gentle until you join the 'tourist' route coming up from
Coniston village, from this point on its steep all the way to the
summit, the path is pretty good until your nearly at the summit where
there's a small rough section. Once we had made the summit we felt the
full effects of the cold wind, so it was on with an extra layer and a
warming cuppa. From the summit it was relatively easy walking out over
to Brim Fell, then cutting back across to Goats Hawse and then upto Dow
Crag (where a little bit of scrambling is required to gain the very
top). From there it was a pleasant walk down the ridge, over Buck and
Brown Pike's to reach the top of the Walna Scar road, following a quick
there and back to White Maiden we followed the road all the way back to
the car, its a good track but its very rough and stony in places. |
